Understanding your MRI report
MRI reports are full of technical terms such as "T2 hyperintensity", "disc protrusion" or "edema". Upload the report, a photo of it or key images, and every finding is explained in plain language.
You see which findings are common and often harmless — many disc bulges, for example, cause no symptoms — and which deserve follow-up, with next steps and questions to take to your doctor or specialist.
What you can upload
- Brain MRI reports
- Spine MRI (cervical, thoracic, lumbar), e.g. for back pain or a herniated disc
- Knee, shoulder, hip and other joint MRIs
- Abdominal and pelvic MRI
- Report PDFs, photos, screenshots of images and DICOM files
Terms you may find in your report
- T2 hyperintensity
- An area that appears bright on certain MRI images. It describes the image, not a disease, and is often harmless.
- Disc protrusion / herniation
- Part of an intervertebral disc bulges out. Common, and often without symptoms.
- Edema
- Fluid build-up in tissue, for example after an injury or with inflammation.
- Meniscus tear
- A tear in the cartilage pad of the knee.
- Contrast enhancement
- An area that takes up contrast agent, which can point to inflammation, scarring or other changes.
